Hi Dan. We appreciate your input, and we're on board with you! The scenarios were a thought exercise aimed at understanding priorities from the public. Ideally, the Lowline will incorporate all of the aspects of each scenario.

Good to know! We'll keep them in mind as we continue planning.

Thanks for sharing! We encourage you to contact the Lowline at community@thelowline.org. We would love to work together with other organizations in the neighborhood!

What kinds of activities? Should these be aimed at all ages? For children? Adults? Share your thoughts!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
Good to know! Any other runners want to weigh in?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
Cool! Environmental awareness is important to the Lowline, and art is a great vehicle for awareness. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks, Naomi. Hearing the qualities and amenities that you and others value will help us shape this space as we continue to plan and design it!

Thank you for your support!

The Lowline agrees that more affordable housing is needed on the LES and everywhere in NYC. Any suggestions for a role that the Lowline can play? Could we raise awareness through an informational exhibit or provide visitors with resources for finding affordable housing? How about offering space for the community members to meet with each other or developers to negotiate solutions?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
Got it! Does anyone feel strongly about an emphasis for kid-friendly activities? Do you all want things that allow kids to just play, or something that stimulates creativity, or activities that can educate kids in science, technology, etc.?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
We hear you! Coffee has been a very popular suggestion.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
Thanks for sharing. We love the idea of a non-professional photography show. Getting photo-graphic prints can be expensive. Any suggestions for partnerships or sponsorships to assist the Lowline and non-professionals in making this happen?

Great point, Shelia. The Lowline is striving to be an inclusive space, so we appreciate that you brought up representation of often overlooked cultures.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 2 months ago
Thanks! Sounds pleasant!

We appreciate your input! Let us know if there are any partners that we could work with to make this programming happen.

Swings would be really fun! We can't make any promises yet, but we will pass this idea along to the design team.

Many have shared your struggle, so hopefully you can learn some tips from the Lowline, where we will be growing plants underground.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks! We are glad you are looking forward to learning more about the plants we will have at the Lowline!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Awesome! What age ranges should we target? Can you tell us about educational activities you have enjoyed previously?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks! We have received A LOT of suggestions about celebrating and incorporating the area's history. Anything in particular that you would like to see? A photo exhibit? A virtual reality experience?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
We'll pass this suggestion along to the designers and horticulture experts. Any favorites you would be on the lookout for at the Lowline?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Great suggestion! Plants can be tough to keep alive, but hopefully you'll be able to pick up a few pointers from the Lowline!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Lovely! The unique characteristics of the old trolley station could certainly help with that!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Great idea, and so very fitting for the Lowline!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Ping Pong tournaments sound like a lot of fun! Where can we sign up?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks for the suggestion!

Who doesn't love a nice, comfortable spot to lounge in?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
This might be the first time foraging has been suggested for the Lowline. It ties in well with the Lowline's interest in sustainability. Any ideas for related education or activities?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Cool! Any artists or performers that you would like to see?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
That's a great idea, Zack. Fresh tomatoes year-round? Yum!

We share your concern, Local Students. We want the Lowline to be an inclusive, welcoming place for all. The Lowline is still developing plans for programming, design, and funding, so all cards are on the table. Tell us what YOU think the Lowline should do to benefit the community.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks, Imogen. The Lowline respects the Lower East Side's rich history, and we welcome suggestions for strategies.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Beautifully described, Tatiana. Any particular aspects of LES history that should be highlighted?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks, Steve! Tell us more. What kinds of features could foster creative play for all ages?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Love it! Could the Lowline host roller derby matches? Tell us if you'd be interested!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Great suggestion, Saeed. What grades do you think the educational tours should be aimed at? Are there opportunities to design content in conjunction with curriculum?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks! We look forward to seeing what the Lowline will become, too, because it is the public's input that will drive the initial design. We love that you're thinking about the Lowline as a space that will grow and evolve once it is open to the public.
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
We appreciate your input, Sheila! Many people we have talked to share your desire for affordable food/coffee and community gathering space. We are tracking all suggestions, and communicating this to the design team. Let us know if you have any other thoughts!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
We would love to hear more! How would you interact with the green space? What types of vegetation? Is there seating within the green space? Is it a quiet space or available for kids to play?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
These are great ideas for anchoring the Lowline as a space OF and FOR the community, which is a priority for the Lowline. Thanks for sharing. Any thoughts on photographers or organizations that we could partner with us on these offerings?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 3 months ago
Thanks for sharing! The Lowline you envision would be a very dynamic place!

Hi Lynne, Thank you so much for attending in January and for your thoughtful, continued engagement. The needs of the local community have been top of mind for the Lowline since its inception, and will continue to be so as planning moves forward. The community feedback process with big public workshops will continue through June, throughout which we hope to speak to even more community members about what they want to see at the Lowline. After that, the Lowline plans on staying engaged with the Lower East Side to ensure the space remains welcoming to locals.

Using coUrbanize - and encouraging your friends and neighbors to do so - is also a great way to make your voice heard, and have a say in shaping the future space!

PS: We saw that article too, and should note that the Lowline is in contact with the High Line and other similar community-driven open space projects in order to learn from those projects' experiences.

We're happy to hear that! Please tell your friends and family about the Lowline, join the conversation on Courbanize, and check out the Lowline on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Tumblr.

Thanks! Plants are a high priority for the Lowline. Any particular plants you would like to see? We have heard people mention tropical plants, plants and flowers native to different cultures, etc. What do you all think?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 4 months ago
A lot of people are interested in the history of the Lowline and the LES, and have suggested preserving the trolley tracks or including things like a graffiti wall. What do you think? What groups or individuals could lead discussions of local history?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 4 months ago
That's a great idea! What kinds of classes would you like? Who could teach these classes? We want to hear everyone's thoughts on this!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 4 months ago
Thanks for sharing! No worries if you can't make it to the March 27 meeting. The same meeting will be held in May. We will post the date and location of the May meeting as soon as this is finalized. In the meantime, consider saving some pictures of water features, cafes, or lighting that you like, and feel free to share other ideas that come up!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 5 months ago
Thanks for your detailed comments and sharing these links, G. We will pass these questions and comments along to the design team. Aquariums have been a popular idea that many people have brought up. Your idea to use one to connect the Lowline with the street level is really interesting. What does everyone else think? What kind of fish or plants would you like to see?
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 5 months ago
Hi Elise, Thank you for sharing this idea! We'll include 'salt cave' in a list of the design suggestions we've received. Though this is the first time we've heard of this particular feature, many participants in the community engagement process have talked about different design elements that would provide the same kind of calm respite from the city above that you mentioned. Keep the ideas coming!
The Lowline Team commented on The Lowline 3 years, 6 months ago

Thanks for suggesting this, Glenn. We will share this idea with the design team. We also encourage you to tell your friends and neighbors about this project and to join us at a public workshop to further explore this idea with others in the community. The first one is on Jan. 25. Hope to see you there!
