Hi Tom, thank you for suggesting this – the opportunity to share the history of Michigan Central Station, including its significant role in transporting our military troops, is truly inspiring. Sharing stories and photos would be a meaningful way to honor the legacy of so many who passed through the station.
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 2 days, 12 hours ago
Thanks for your comments, Michele! We’ve received many suggestions for historical exhibits inside the station; incorporating history into the outdoor spaces is a nice idea, too. We’re working on balancing history with the future of mobility. What other sites have you enjoyed that bring the ‘exhibit space’ outdoors?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 2 days, 13 hours ago
Thanks for your ideas, Jack! We agree the station will serve as an exciting showcase, much like the Rotunda did. We look forward to sharing the latest work on the future of mobility and celebrating the seasons and holidays with the public.
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 2 days, 13 hours ago
Thanks for your comment Troi, we too are excited to see the restoration progressing, and look forward to the day we can welcome the community back into the station! If passenger rail returned to Michigan Central Station, how often would you use it, and where would you go?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 2 days, 13 hours ago
Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions, Frances. We will share your specific ideas with our design team as we work to create a place that honors the history and legacy of the neighborhood, the station, and the people of Detroit.

Thanks for sharing your excitement about the possibilities Barbara! While we do not have immediate plans for passenger rail, it is possible to accommodate it in the future. The idea of a passenger rail route between Greenfield Village and Michigan Central would be inspiring, tying together our past, present, and future. We will be sure to document your suggestion for consideration in future planning.
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 2 months, 4 weeks ago
Thanks for sharing your passenger rail ideas and information Ashton and Peter. While we have no immediate plans for passenger rail, our long-term planning will allow for passenger rail to be added in the future, so we will be sure your suggestions are documented and shared with the planning team!
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thanks for sharing your interest in passenger rail opportunities Stephanie and Peter. As you may know, there is an active freight rail line that runs between Detroit and Windsor. As for future passenger rail, we have no immediate plans to activate this service, but our long-term planning does allow for passenger rail to be added in the future, should the opportunity arise.
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thank you for this thoughtful comment, Robert, we will pass it on to our team as they work to design outdoor space that is useful and attractive year-round - your suggestions are right on point! Are there other outdoor features or activities that would draw you to Michigan Central in the winter? Have you visited public spaces that are successful and attractive during the winter months?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thank you for your suggestions, E. Louvre, we will pass them on to our planning team as they work to design safe, clean and accessible outdoor spaces. What other outdoor amenities or attractions would you enjoy?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thanks for your interest in future rail transit at Michigan Central, Terry. We have no immediate plans to activate passenger rail at this time, but our long-term planning allows for it to be added in the future, should the opportunity arise. Where would you want to travel to if passenger rail returned to Michigan Central?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Informal performance space is a great idea, we will pass it on to the design team. What sort of performances or groups do you envision using a space like this? Thanks for taking the time to text us your input!

Thanks for your suggestions on water features, and thanks for taking the time to text us your input! We agree that integrating water into the plan is a sure way to bring people together, both kids and adults. What are your favorite water features around the city and what do you like most about them?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thank you for these ideas, Nick, we are sharing them with our design team. We agree that the Detroit Riverfront is an excellent example of well thought out, engaging public space. What are your favorite places or features on the Riverwalk?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
These are all great suggestions David, we'll share with our team. Music and water features have been particularly common ideas - we're interested in hearing more from you! What are your favorite water features? And what types of music or performances would you enjoy seeing at Michigan Central?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Great suggestion Aaron, we'll pass it on to our design team and to our city partners responsible for the planning effort for Roosevelt Park. What are your favorite outdoor gym components? Are there specific features that could make it useful (nearly) year-round?
Michigan Central commented on Michigan Central 3 months, 1 week ago
Thanks for the geofencing suggestion, Nick - we will pass it on to with the planning team. Defining scooter parking areas is a great idea, and geofencing technology may prove to be a good solution. While we aim to accommodate a variety of micro-mobility options, we are also mindful of the importance of keeping sidewalks and other paths clear and accessible for all users! We’ve placed a high priority on public safety and barrier free accessibility for all – throughout the 30 acres of Michigan Central.
We hope you'll consider participating in future pilot studies aimed at developing mobility solutions that work for our community. Sign up here for more information: https://courbanize.com/projects/michigancentral/rsvp

Thanks for sharing your vision, Mr. Cuthbert. We’ll pass your ideas on to the planning team and our partners at the city. Freeway lid parks are a neat idea, have you visited these in other cities? We’d love to hear about your experience! Regarding bike lane connectivity, Michigan Central will be connected (near the Bagley Mobility Hub) to the new Southwest Greenway project, currently under development by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. This greenway will provide a corridor for walking and biking from Corktown, through SW Detroit, to Ralph C Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, affording access to both downtown, and the near east side via the riverfront, when complete. Thanks for these thoughts, Betsy - stormwater management has certainly been on the minds of Detroiters these past few months. Our landscape team is working on designs for Michigan Central’s outdoor spaces that will address stormwater demands. Information will be forthcoming at future public meetings. Michigan Central funded the City of Detroit’s Bridging Neighborhoods Home Repair Program, which provides grant funding to local residents for residential repairs. Grants have been awarded and repairs will be implemented in 2022.

Thanks for your input Michael - the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is wrapping up the design process for the new Southwest Greenway that will do just that! It will extend from Bagley to the west riverfront at Ralph C Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, and Michigan Central plans to connect our former rail platform to this greenway, providing a corridor for walking and biking from Corktown, through SW Detroit, to the west riverfront. Furthermore, the City of Detroit recently broke ground on the Joe Louis Greenway, a 27.5 mile loop around the city that will also tie in at Bagley St. When complete, this corridor will connect to the riverfront on both the east and west sides. You can learn more about both by following this link to the slide presentation from DRFC's April public meeting: https://detroitriverfront.org/sites/default/files/images/DRFC_WestRiverfrontUpdate_SlidePresentation_8April2021.pdf

Great ideas, thanks Nicole. We will share your ideas with our design and real estate teams as they begin to consider a range of tenants and amenities that would benefit the neighborhood. We agree that a rooftop activation would be a wonderful addition to Michigan Central! In fact, we are currently restoring and reimagining the Book Depository building to support a future rooftop space with stunning views of Michigan Central Station, Detroit, the riverfront and Canada – and we’re exploring an outdoor area on top of Michigan Central Station too.

We’re actively seeking input from residents and business owners on identifying neighborhood needs, so your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to more community insights on this topic. Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback, Mark. We are grateful to the community for welcoming us to the area. We want to be a good neighbor and are mindful of the concerns you raise. We are working with urban planning experts and partners like the City of Detroit to shape an overall strategy for parking and vehicular movement in and around Michigan Central, with the goal of minimizing and, wherever possible, avoiding any negative impacts to residents, including parking, traffic, safety and construction disruptions. Thanks for your insights, we’ll share with our team, and we’ll provide responses and update our questions periodically to continue to build community dialogue and solicit feedback.
