Thanks for your input Michael - the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is wrapping up the design process for the new Southwest Greenway that will do just that! It will extend from Bagley to the west riverfront at Ralph C Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, and Michigan Central plans to connect our former rail platform to this greenway, providing a corridor for walking and biking from Corktown, through SW Detroit, to the west riverfront. Furthermore, the City of Detroit recently broke ground on the Joe Louis Greenway, a 27.5 mile loop around the city that will also tie in at Bagley St. When complete, this corridor will connect to the riverfront on both the east and west sides. You can learn more about both by following this link to the slide presentation from DRFC's April public meeting: https://detroitriverfront.org/sites/default/files/images/DRFC_WestRiverfrontUpdate_SlidePresentation_8April2021.pdf

Regarding a corridor, Michigan Central is excited to connect with two future greenways: the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy's Southwest Greenway and the City of Detroit's Joe Louis Greenway. Updates on both projects were presented at a public meeting held by the DRFC in April, here’s a link to the slide presentation for more information:

Nice suggestion Bob. We appreciate ideas that support musicians and create opportunities for memorable outdoor experiences. For our Michigan Central properties, we’re exploring the potential to include infrastructure for plugging in devices in our common areas. We can also pass along your idea to our partners at the City of Detroit who are managing the Roosevelt Park unification project.

We completely agree! Showcasing community art is a priority, and we support initiatives that make art more accessible. We recently distributed over 1,000 art boxes to local families to expand opportunities for young people to create art at home. Michigan Central also showcased Capturing Belief’s Remote Ally student photography project on the fencing around the station. Thanks again and we will share your specific ideas with our arts team.

Thank you for your recommendations Nick, we appreciate your input! Additional bike racks are being considered for multiple locations as we strive to support the use of various micro-mobility modes throughout the neighborhood. We’ll share your ideas with our team, and please join the City of Detroit and Michigan Central in Roosevelt Park on August 28th to hear updates on the future of the Park and the open spaces at Michigan Central. Thanks for your feedback David! We agree that safe and welcoming streets, as well as access to transit and information are high priorities. At this time Michigan Central is part of a working group with the City of Detroit and local stakeholders to establish a framework for deploying pedestrian friendly wayfinding in the neighborhoods immediately adjacent to the station, and we’re partnering with the City to make improvements to Vernor and the streets around Roosevelt Park. We will share your suggestions with our team as they explore solutions in these specific areas. And please consider participating in future pilot studies aimed at addressing mobility challenges and developing solutions that work for our community, you can sign up here for more information: https://courbanize.com/projects/michigancentral/rsvp

Thanks for identifying tax assessments and evictions as important issues facing Detroit communities – we share your perspective that housing stability and affordability are essential elements of healthy and sustainable neighborhoods. Michigan Central has contributed $750K in community benefits funding to support affordable housing in the neighborhood and we also contributed affordable housing development sites to the Choice Neighborhood Initiative program. Additionally free legal services related to housing issues are offered on Wednesdays from 12-5pm at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC) at 2628 Bagley. Please reach out to info@michigancentral.com to learn more.

Great ideas, thanks Nicole. We will share your ideas with our design and real estate teams as they begin to consider a range of tenants and amenities that would benefit the neighborhood. We agree that a rooftop activation would be a wonderful addition to Michigan Central! In fact, we are currently restoring and reimagining the Book Depository building to support a future rooftop space with stunning views of Michigan Central Station, Detroit, the riverfront and Canada – and we’re exploring an outdoor area on top of Michigan Central Station too.

We’re actively seeking input from residents and business owners on identifying neighborhood needs, so your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to more community insights on this topic. Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback, Mark. We are grateful to the community for welcoming us to the area. We want to be a good neighbor and are mindful of the concerns you raise. We are working with urban planning experts and partners like the City of Detroit to shape an overall strategy for parking and vehicular movement in and around Michigan Central, with the goal of minimizing and, wherever possible, avoiding any negative impacts to residents, including parking, traffic, safety and construction disruptions. Thanks for your insights, we’ll share with our team, and we’ll provide responses and update our questions periodically to continue to build community dialogue and solicit feedback. Thanks again for starting the conversation here!

John, your idea is very exciting and we will share it with our team and our art strategy consultants for consideration. Just to give some context on where we are … we’re in the process of developing a program for incorporating art throughout Michigan Central, such as the architecture and outdoor environments. We’re looking forward to hearing more input on this topic and continuing the conversation. Thanks again!

Thanks for your feedback Timothy. We’re in the process of developing a strategy for movement in and around Michigan Central, including the possibility of ‘last mile’ options such as shuttles. The new Bagley Mobility Hub will offer stations for micro-mobility services like e-bikes and e-scooters that will be a shared resource for workers, visitors and residents. We are also supporting a number of pilot projects geared toward improving awareness and access to mobility information and services. If you have an interest in participating in one of these, please see visit the Detroit Mobility Pilots tab above. Thanks for your input and kicking off the conversation!

Ashton & DB, we so appreciate your feedback. We are looking to preserve, in various ways, some of the graffiti in Michigan Central Station as well as exploring more broadly how art could be incorporated into all the spaces at Michigan Central. We acknowledge the important role Detroit artists have played in the area’s rich history and culture - and will continue to play in its future. Thanks for the idea - we will share it with our team and arts consultant for consideration, and we’ll provide responses and update our questions periodically to support community conversation. Thanks again for helping us start the dialogue!

Debra, thank you so much for your insight and enthusiasm! We shared an update on the Bagley Mobility Hub at the 4/22 public meeting, and we’re in the process of scheduling a dedicated Listen & Learn session for public discussion and questions on this topic. Regarding public visitation to the Michigan Central site, with our Info Center temporarily closed due to the pandemic, we’re exploring other options for collecting ‘in-person’ insights. Thanks again for your ideas!

We will share responses and update our questions periodically to support community dialogue. Thanks again for helping us start the conversation!
