Wheelchair Access

While I'm thrilled about the new construction, I am extremely worried about the fact that the bridge is going to be closed during construction. I use a wheelchair and crossing College Avenue to... Read more...

The decision to close the pedestrian bridge during construction was not taken lightly, and we certainly understand the inconvenience it may cause to some of our patrons. Unfortunately, existing grades... Read more...

Sidewalks connecting Avondale MARTA to City of Avondale are extremely important.

Keep the bridge open during the project

The bridge is still actively used to access Avondale Station by residents south of East College. Walking down the street is possible, but may be too far for disabled or elderly customers.

Can I please be given some information for the 92 Senior housing

This is what MARTA wrote as a reply to an earlier post about the senior housing: "It is estimated that Phase I of the Avondale TOD will take twenty-two months to complete. Please visit Columbia Ventures’... Read more...

Improve Pedestrian Access from South to North During Bridge Closure at Sam's Crossing

Looking forward to the new development and especially to easier pedestrian access to MARTA from the Derrydown side, but the BRIDGE CLOSURE IS A BIG INCONVENIENCE AND SAFETY ISSUE. While the altered bus... Read more...

And I hope I'm looking at the site plan correctly and that access from Derrydown will still exist, rather than walking on the dangerous sidewalk along college to reach the south side bridge.

My understanding is Sams Crossing falls under GDOT who are notoriously blind to the needs of pedestrians (or cyclists, or any non-vehicular form of transportation). Avondale Estates just approved the large... Read more...

Glad to hear there will be a new staircase in the near future, although it doesn't sound like it will help folks who can't climb stairs.

Bridge Access and Derrydown Way Disturbance

Wondering if there will be any official communication on access to the bridge. I live on Derrydown Way and commute by MARTA daily. While there is tape placed over the stairs and various entrances, I notice... Read more...

Now that groundbreaking is done, would be nice to know when the south pedestrian bridge will close. I take a gamble on my commute every morning...

Great project, but closing pedestrian bridge is not good

This project is an awesome improvement to the neighborhood here around Decatur/Avondale. We're all excited to see it start. However, we learned that the pedestrian bridge from the south side of College... Read more...

Altering bus route 114 is great, but at it's current frequency is not an adequate fix for closing the south pedestrian bridge. 20 minute intervals is still far less than Marta trains and you neglect... Read more...

Thanks for the update. Is there an expected timeline for connecting the PATH/pedestrian handicap access to the bridge to the MARTA station?

Will there be more MARTA parking for the public?

1 supporter

MARTA requires the replacement of 214 patron parking spaces as part of this TOD project. Those spaces will be incorporated into a new structured parking facility constructed as part of Phase I.

Is that more or less or the same as the total spaces that were in the lot originally?

Same, but remaining will be for the apartments and retail

Ok, so the deck will have more than 214 spaces, but those are for the apartments and retail? Ok, will the MARTA parking remain free for less than 24 hours? Since there's now a deck, will this enable multi-day... Read more...

How will the MARTA spaces be kept separate from the apartment and retail spaces?

MARTA will provide 214 patron parking spaces within the parking deck. MARTA’s short-term patron parking (less than 24 hours) will remain free and there will be a daily parking fee for long-term parking... Read more...

Will delivery trucks for the retail and residential use the parking deck?

Will MARTA parking be available on the parking lot any time soon? The parking at Avondale's North Lot is very crowded; if you're not in before 8:00, it's off to East Lake or Indian Creek. Or would it be... Read more...
