Construction Update

Construction of Decatur East is progressing on schedule. The pre-leasing office off Derrydown Way opened in June.  First units will be available for move-in beginning in September with all units on track to be completed by the end of the year.  Interior finishes are underway as well as the installation of the exterior building material (stucco, brick and siding).

Topping Out Celebration!

As construction continues to move forward on schedule, Decatur East has reached a major milestone and in celebration held a topping out ceremony on Friday, April 6.  It is custom to celebrate the work of the construction team when the last beam is placed atop the building.  Below are some photos from the celebration and the status of the development!

Construction Update

Construction continues to progress very well at Decatur East. Wood framing is in vertical climb throughout the site. The senior independent living component of the development, led by Columbia Residential is completely dried in with the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) installation underway. The construction of Decatur East remains on target for about twenty-two months from start to finish with phased completion starting in the fall of 2018. The leasing office will be opening soon. The development is taking shape as wood framing continues with mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins in full swings at the podium levels. Framing is underway for the senior independent living apartment as well. The entire Avondale TOD project remains on target with a 22-month construction period from start to finish. A phased completion of the development will begin in fall of 2018.

Construction is progressing very well. Utilities, infrastructure and concrete podium activities are substantially complete for buildings 1000 and 2000 and underway for building 3000. Wood framing has begun for building 1000. The precast parking deck has reached substantially completion. The foundation and early framing is underway for the senior independent living apartment building. The entire project remains on target to be completed within a 22-month construction period from start to finish. 

Construction Update

Since our last construction update, the Avondale Station TOD site has undergone some major visual changes. A large portion of the development is vertical and construction overall is advancing very well. The precast park deck is substantially complete and the building footprint has become more apparent along E. College Avenue and Sams Street. The utilities, infrastructure, and concrete podium activities continue east of the site. Completion remains on schedule for Fall 2018.  

Construction Update

Construction of the Avondale Station TOD is progressing very well with utilities, infrastructure, foundations and concrete podium work all underway.  The precast parking deck is expected to be fully erected and substantially completed within the next 90 days. Phase I construction, which is about 22 months from start to finish is slated for completion in fall 2018. Groundbreaking for the senior housing component will take place within the next 30 days.

The Pedestrian Bridge Has Reopened!

We are pleased to announce that the pedestrian bridge has reopened with a new stairway providing access from the bridge to East College Avenue. MARTA and our development partners want to thank you for your patience during the temporary bridge closure as well as your patience during the construction of the Avondale Station TOD.  

Construction Update

Six weeks in, the developer’s construction team has cleared the site and major earthwork is underway. Over the next six months, work will continue with the installation of the building foundations, utilities and infrastructure. It is estimated that the project will take twenty-two months from start to finish. 

Pedestrian Bridge Access

MARTA and our development partner are working to reopen the pedestrian bridge at the Avondale Station as soon as possible. A critical component of the development program for the Avondale Station TOD is improving the streetscape along East College Avenue to make it more pedestrian friendly. In order to accomplish this, a large retaining wall must be constructed in the vicinity of the pedestrian bridge. In order to construct this retaining wall and the new pedestrian plaza at the entrance to the pedestrian bridge, we have to close the bridge for a limited period of time.

A new stairway will be constructed which will provide access from the bridge to East College Avenue, providing a point of ingress and egress for those with origins and destinations to the south of the station. Construction on this stairway will begin today. We expect construction to take approximately three weeks after which point the bridge will reopen.
