I think this is a great idea. Much of the discussion here and on various FB neighborhood pages is about how this will impact the neighbors - how it will affect parking, or what guarantees are in place... Read more...

Thank you, Daniel. And it has been our experience that the resident services team will be a great asset in connecting these future residents with the neighborhood and broader community.

Do you live near this proposed complex Daniel?

There are concerns about how a facility like this would be managed. And, the ability of on-site managers/staff to help residents be good neighbors. That is the fear. Giving people help to stabilize their... Read more...

Thank you, Jason. One of the hallmarks of Mercy Housing as an operator of permanent supportive housing is the strong working relationship between the management and the resident services staff (including... Read more...

Thank you for the reply. I will check back. The facility you referenced as similar is for a different population and it doesn't appear to have a very long track record. In other words it seems brand new.... Read more...

Oh, and finally, another location off of a main blvd would allow for easier access that would not contribute to traffic on what tends to be a very busy blvd.

To your first questions, Jason, although the Veteran's Village looks “brand new”, it has been operating since 2014 and serves formerly homeless veterans in 40 studio apartments. Since its opening, approximately... Read more...

Thank you again for your thoughtful response. I still have concerns about how the facility will be managed. I have no problem with people that are looking for a hand up and willing to be a good community... Read more...

You mentioned a tour of a facility in April, has that been scheduled? Did it already happen? I would like to go.

We would be delighted to have you join the tour, which is scheduled for May 11 and was announced at the community meeting last week. You may have taken one of the invitation flyers. The invitation is... Read more...

Will you be requiring sobriety for any substance abusers in this facility? And will you be requiring anyone who is mentally ill to be on their medications?

We do not require sobriety to live in the building. The well-respected harm reduction model is based on the understanding that what individuals do in the privacy of their own home is their right to do... Read more...

What would you say is the best quality of the area and what needs the most improvement?

It is a nice neighborhood that has a close proximity to many things, but increased traffic is an issue. The more apartments go up, the more crowded the area gets causing lots of congestion in this area.

Thank you Zarek. The future residents of Burbank Boulevard Senior Housing will generally drive far less than the usual population and we'll work hard to make sure the building is designed well with good... Read more...

I'm glad to see this site proposed for affordable housing! Burbank near Van Nuys is ideal for residents' access to services and public transit. I look forward to hearing more about the project on Feb.... Read more...

Is this your first housing development for seniors experiencing homelessness? Why did you choose this area to develop this project?

Great questions, thank you. Mercy Housing has worked extensively with the homeless senior population. We provide permanent housing to over 500 formerly homeless seniors in a variety of settings across... Read more...

What types of community programming would be most beneficial to the neighborhood?

Why can’t this be held at a time when working community members can attend? Holding it the middle of a work day feels like a way to avoid community presence.

I appreciate your comment here. We have held all of our Mercy Housing community meetings in the evening for that very reason. Unfortunately, this is a City of Los Angeles hearing over which we have no... Read more...

How many units could be built in an area where land is less expensive? Why not housing for younger families that live east and have to work on the westside. Wouldn't it be better for them to work closer... Read more...

Jack, those are all important housing needs. This site is better suited to seniors, though, which is also the largest growing population of people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. It is a great... Read more...

Affordable housing for younger Burbank residents too!

We agree, Allie. This development will be for senior 62 and older, but there is certainly opportunity for more housing which is not age-restricted.

How can we highlight the community’s history and honor its roots and culture?

By keeping the look of the community as uniform as possible

Thank you, Zarek. We agree, and at our February 4 community meeting, with the architects present, we asked for community input on the exterior look and feel of the property. We incorporated those comments... Read more...

Ensure new construction does not change zoning codes. Ensure structure height is in line with surrounding buildings. Ensure neighborhood "feel" of new construction, with green and public space.

Thanks Nahtahna. While our proposed plans work within the existing height, setbacks and density of the Eldercare plan which was approved by the City in 2017, we look forward to engaging the community... Read more...

From your knowledge of the community, what resources would you recommend to offer support to senior residents who live at Burbank Blvd Senior Housing?

Where on Burbank Blvd. what are the cross street? This is the first I am aware of this project.
