C40 Garfield Park - Fall Update
Dear Neighbors -
We hope this finds you well. We are grateful to Alderman Ervin for hosting a meeting at Marshall High School on September 20 so that we could give the public an update about the project and to answer questions and take comments about the status of the design of the first building in this development - which we are hoping will break ground on in the spring. If you missed that meeting, you can watch a video of it here or view our presentation.
We are hoping to have zoning approved for both phases of the project later this month by the Chicago Plan Commission and to apply for a building permit early next year.
We continue to meet with our committees, and their work includes a recent review of community survey data with our retail committee and hearing from local artists with ideas for the building - you have amazing neighbors who volunteer their time to make sure this building reflects the community's interests. We also really value those who continue to give us your feedback via the website.
If you would like to join a committee, have us to speak to a group or ask us a question - please don't hesitate to reach out - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally - our project has a sister! The City issued another RFP under the C40 program last year for a site across from the Harold Washington Library in the Loop. The winning proposal is for 207 units of affordable housing over two stories of retail. We think the Garfield Park project set the stage for a successful project to combine affordable housing, high quality and sustainable design and neighborhood retail and spaces. Read more about that building here.
Hope to update you again soon -
