What's in the Works

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Industrial Authority has hired Gresham Smith to create a master plan for the 200-acre Coldstream site. The Coldstream Master Plan will evaluate infrastructure investments to prepare the site to attract new jobs, preserve and enhance the environment, and provide community assets and connectivity.

What's There Now

The site is located southeast of the intersection of Interstate 75/64 and Georgetown Road. Adjacent to the Coldstream Research Campus, the site is currently home to the University of Kentucky’s Coldstream Dairy Research Farm. The Coventry and Kearney Neighborhoods are adjacent to the site. Located within the Cane Run Watershed, the site has two streams and and is bordered by the Legacy Trail.

What's the Opportunity

This project is an opportunity to showcase innovative economic development strategies. LFCUG recognizes the chance to develop and attract jobs to this large contiguous 200-acre site that lies within the Urban Service Boundary. This project represents a strong collaborative partnership between the City and the University as well as an innovative economic opportunity for its residents.

What's Happening Next

The project team has is in the very beginning of the planning phase. The team will explore several options and scenarios to sensitive development, that provides community and environmental benefits.

The primary outcome of the Coldstream Master Plan will be a framework for the development of the site that will:

  • Identify several initial site development alternatives for initial discussion
  • Provide for engagement with adjacent residential neighborhoods through community meetings
  • Provide two Master Plans for the site (preferred and alternative)
