Programming + Methodology

The 2012 Crystal City Sector Plan highlighted a need for the establishment of a cohesive system of high-quality open spaces to re-calibrate the balance between types and uses. This study has developed a methodology that uses a site analysis process to categorize the parks into typologies based on specific characteristics. These characteristics include scale, neighboring land uses, proximity to density, position with overall neighborhood, and incorporation of 'casual use spaces' suggested by the Arlington County Public Spaces Master Plan. The Open Space Framework Plan is intended to provide general recommendations about programmatic distribution and design. The final direction will be determined based on the community discussions.
