Lot's of greenery. I've noticed that for a city that prides itself on being green, the downtown landscape is sorely lacking in trees and bushes. The latest architecture from around the world incorporates... Read more...

Lots of room for tents, RV parking and open air bathrooms to blend in with the emerging architectural trends in the rest of Seattle. Also a marketplace area to offer stolen goods. Please make sure there... Read more...

All too often ground floor retail rental space gets eaten up by businesses that really do nothing to improve/drive community vibrance, or act as a real attraction to the community/wider public. See dentist,... Read more...

Thank you for the thoughtful comments. Can you share more thoughts or examples of the unique retail that you were suggesting?

I suppose those live/work spaces in surrounding blocks are perfect for doctors, lawyers, and accountants?

@Mt Baker Housing, examples would be locally BIPOC owned retail (please promote real equity in this neighborhood, don’t just put up artistic “cultural sculptures” or design details and call it good as... Read more...

Also, as a resident living very close in the neighborhood, some sort of convenience/corner store would be great. Could always use more walkable options for this. Neighborhood residents want retail that... Read more...

I agree 100% with Mich's comment. All too often we see new development with no priorities as to what businesses can occupy the ground floor, leading to an overabundance of gyms, yoga studios, insurance... Read more...

What other design features that you would like to see? What are other ways the plaza can contribute to the community?

Covered area for use in rainy season, heaters/fire pit, play equipment

A new public plaza is being planned here - what amenities would you like to see? (i.e. seating, lighting, a new water feature)

Please no hostile (anti-homeless) architecture. The plaza should include ample benches, green space, outdoor seating for businesses, possible covered space for use in rainy season.

Based on the diagram of the site plan... I really wish this devlopment split it's retail between 23rd AND Ranier instead of having office space at ground level on the 23rd side... if you wan to "intergrate... Read more...

I agree - if Rainier is the retail side and 23rd is the office side, 23rd will inevitably become the less-trafficked side and see less vibrancy. It could also promote 23rd becoming dark and dead at night,... Read more...

What are some ways we can honor and highlight the cultural diversity of the neighborhood in our plans and programming?

Significantly invest in providing subsidisation and outreach to bring in more minority owned business and provide "right-sized" leasing terms, square footage and prices to attract neighborhood relocating... Read more...

What other design features that you would like to see? What are other ways the plaza can contribute to the community?

It would be excellent to make the plaza a hub for food trucks, carts, and stands with plenty of outdoor, covered seating. Given the pandemic and cultural changes that will follow, providing the community... Read more...

The pandemic will be under control in just a few months. Be optimistic! Be forward thinking! This plaza ought to be designed with a vision of future.

That is what they are suggesting.

Improve neighborhood safety

This is likely the most difficult aspect of this project. People can only enjoy themselves if they feel safe and aren't constantly accosted by drunks, panhandlers, or hammered by unreasonably loud music.... Read more...

Water feature and sound baffling to make it a quiet place with good acoustics for small venue music performances. See Palm Springs..

These goals are all great and cover so many issues. The area really is a multi-modal transit hub for buses, biking, and cars and is need of a community focal point. The neighborhood is currently cut off... Read more...

I think at Grand and Rainier it would make sense for a pedestrian crossing to be added across rainier so people can to the bus stops in both directions from the development. On 23rd there's already a cross... Read more...

100% agree with you. I have seen many senior citizens who live in the apts at 23rd running through traffic on Rainier which always scares me. The little side street by Toshio has caused some issues as... Read more...

I would like to see varied seating options but because the location is a high transit area and prone to homelessness...there will have to be intentional thought provided

Affordable housing is the top priority for me.

What are some ways we can highlight the cultural diversity of the neighborhood in our plans and programming? (i.e. games, activities, design details)

Cultural diversity to me is most reflected in the diversity of food. Maybe have space for small farmers markets or pop up food booths or trucks. Also would be great to have a small playground or play space

Low income housing! Price everyone out of the community as has happened to much of Seattle and you will have no cultural diversity. Simple as that. Make it affordable to live and do business in this town... Read more...
