What Is This Project?

Haverhill is one of 10 Massachusetts Gateway Cities selected to participate in MassDevelopment's Transformative Development Initiative (TDI). TDI utilizes a strategic district focus, local collaborative partnerships, and community engagement to create focused urban revitalization. As part of the suite of services available to TDI districts, MassDevelopment is providing third-party real estate technical assistance to help solve urban challenges in Haverhill. Find more information on TDI here.

What Are We Trying To Accomplish?

Existing Conditions:

The eastern half of downtown Haverhill, centered on Merrimack Street, was largely cleared during the urban renewal era and lacks the historic urban fabric of the Washington Street area that has been the center of Haverhill's downtown renaissance. The area is currently under-built with limited street-level activity, but shows tremendous potential for revitalization, especially due to its existing assets, proximity to the river, and the new Harbor Place development currently under construction.

What we're doing:

Our current project is with Team Better Block. On May 6, 2017, we'll be building out a prototype block on Merrimack Street and giving you the opportunity to help curate and build what you want to see downtown.
