Rapid transit in Indigo Block's future?

Check out this article highlighting the Fairmount / Indigo commuter rail line and a bill filed this year in the state House of Representatives to evaluate the Fairmount line as a rapid transit line with trains running every 15 minutes. We are excited to build housing and jobs right next to a stop on Boston’s next rapid transit line!

Now pre-leasing at Indigo Block commercial!

You haven’t heard from us in a few months, but we have been working away in the background preparing financing applications for the Indigo Block project. We will keep you updated as we hear more about the outcome of our applications. Feel free to ask questions in the comments section.

In the meantime, we are excited to announce that we are now pre-leasing for the commercial building! If you know of a business owner who might be interested in locating their business on East Cottage Street, please drop us a line in the comments section or contact Newmarket Community Partners: 617-445-3445 or nba@newmarketboston.org.

What's this project all about?

Whether you missed a meeting or just can’t get enough of this stuff, here’s the lowdown on what the Indigo Block project is bringing to the upper corner of Upham’s Corner, Dorchester.

Where: 65 East Cottage Street, nestled next to the Uphams Corner stop on the Fairmount / Indigo Line.

What’s there now: A vacant lot. It’s not much to look at.

What’s being planned: A mixed-used development—one building with 80 units of rental housing, one building with 23,000 square feet of commercial space, and four 2-family homes for sale. Some road improvements, a better connection to the train, trees, and landscaping.

When: Starting 2018 or 2019. Finishing 18 months or so later.

The good stuff: All 80 rental units are for low- and middle-income families. Indigo Block will sew together the neighborhood. Construction jobs will be filled by at least 51% Boston residents. Priority will be given to minority-owned businesses. Neighbors will get a better connection to the Uphams Corner train station, new open space and a playground, and a community room.

The best part: It’s not too late for you to have a say in how this project plays out. If you have ideas about Indigo Block or how to make it better, you can see what neighbors are saying and add your thoughts here.
