The Town of Kittery has taken several opportunities to reflect on its past development and determine a direction for the community's future through the comprehensive planning process. The Town completed this process as early as 1958 and has made updates to those findings and recommendations several times since. The most recent effort was a 1999 update to the Kittery Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2002. It is time to undertake the effort again!

Q: Why is the name of this site "CoUrbanize"? Is it about becoming more urban?

A: CoUrbanize was initially developed as a platform for cities to digitally engage their community in a conversation regarding future development and land use decisions. It has since broadened its application to all municipalities, including suburban and rural. The platform provides a central place to host information, updates and a forum to hold a continuous on-line community conversation.

Q: Why do we need to update the Comprehensive Plan?

A: It is recommended that a community update its Comprehensive Plan every decade or so. It is an opportunity for a community to take stock, inventory its resources, identify challenges and opportunities and be proactive about addressing both.

Q: When will the Plan be finished?

A: Whether you live, work, or own a business in Kittery, we know you are stretched for time by work, school, and family. We’ll be using this website along with public meetings, comment boards at Town Hall and the Community Center, interviews, sand other forms of outreach to learn and hear your ideas, and to give you updates on the plan.
