What's in the Works

We're working to make the area around South Lincoln/Lincoln Station a vibrant, walkable and sustainable village center to enhance the town's quality of life and quality of place. In order to achieve these goals, the Lincoln Planning Board created the “South Lincoln Planning Implementation Committee (SLPIC)” to implement specific planning projects. SLPIC and its project teams are working on a range of planning projects to make these goals a reality.

What's Happening Next

SLPIC and the project teams (below) will be hosting a range of public outreach forums, coffee hours, surveys, and walking tours to engage and communicate with the community. As part of this outreach, we're excited to offer this interactive platform. We want to hear your ideas. Add your thoughts on the Map and in the Comments section. PROJECT TEAMS

Planning & Zoning Team

The Planning and Zoning Team is working with MAPC (Metropolitan Area Planning Council) under a grant focused on Transit-Oriented Development to create new land use regulations that will encourage a mix of housing and commercial choices to better meet locally identified needs. The Team hopes to bring these new land use regulations to the Town for a vote at a special Town Meeting in November 2018. The Team is also undertaking a study regarding the future needs of the DPW and possible options for consolidation and/or relocation of services. The DPW facility is located on a 4-acre site at the end of Lewis Street.

Placemaking Team

Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well-being. The Placemaking Team is currently working on revitalizing the underutilized green space located at the rear of the Mall at Lincoln Station and adjacent to Lincoln Woods into a vibrant public space. The Rural Land Foundation (RLF), Lincoln Woods and SLPIC recently applied to Mass Development for a $50,000 crowd funding grant. If approved, the Team will need to raise funds in the amount of $50,000, and if successful, Mass Development will match it for a total of $100,000. The Team engaged the landscape design firm Lemon Brooke from Concord to create a fabulous community green space including outdoor seating and a new playground.

Wayfinding Team

The Wayfinding Team is working with Favermann Design to create a wayfinding system to be used town wide that will encourage people to walk, bike and drive to all that Lincoln has to offer. The Town was recently awarded Complete Streets funding of $400,000. A portion of this award will help to fund wayfinding signage, a new sidewalk, bike amenities, kiosks, and circulation improvements in and around Lincoln Station.

MBTA Team

The MBTA Team is exploring site improvements such as ADA accessibility, pedestrian shelters, bicycle amenities and improved signage.
