Dear project followers and existing Mary Ellen McCormack residents:
We’ve been listening! Your input has been extremely valuable in shaping the future of the Mary Ellen McCormack redevelopment, and over the years we have incorporated your feedback into the overall project.
Time and again, you told us that affordability and high-quality appliances are incredibly important to include within the new buildings. We would like to reiterate that the redevelopment will provide one for one replacement of all existing, deeply affordable, BHA units, preserving affordability indefinitely for these apartments.
We are also proud to share with you that for the affordable replacement units, all non-telecommunication utilities - your electricity, heat, hot water, air conditioning, and water/sewer –will be included in the rent. In addition, all residents, regardless of income and household size, will also have a washer and dryer in your unit to make laundry day a breeze.

We hope you and your family safe and healthy in this challenging year. Last year, WinnCompanies and our partner, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, celebrated the holiday with you and your family by hosting the Thanksgiving Project at Mary Ellen McCormack in Sterling Square, providing fresh groceries and holiday meal ingredients to over 1,000 families. This year, given the Governor’s most recent Executive order and with rising COVID-19 cases throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person Thanksgiving Project in order to keep you and your families as safe as possible.
We remain committed, particularly during this time of unprecedented need, to the mission of the Thanksgiving Project and to providing Mary Ellen McCormack families with the means to have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal and food during the holiday.
This year, instead of meal bags, WinnCompanies and the United Way are providing each household at Mary Ellen McCormack with a $50.00 gift card to Shaw’s as a Thanksgiving gift, so you can purchase what you need and want for a full Thanksgiving meal for your family. These cards will be activated for your use on Thursday, November 19th. In addition, you may pick up a roasting pan and reusable shopping bag at the property management office at 10 Kemp Street.
WinnCompanies is proud to partner with you, the United Way, and the Boston Housing Authority in the redevelopment of the Mary Ellen McCormack community. We look forward to working with you in the years to come and hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with those closest to you.
