Construction Update: November 17th – December 1st
Street and Sidewalk Impacts
Wadsworth Street –At this time, the street will remain closed to vehicular traffic from Amherst Street to Memorial Drive (between Buildings E51 and E52) 24 hours a day. Eversource Electric is currently working within the construction zone to rebuild an electric vault and duct bank. Other construction activities include backfilling and completing the sanitary lift station, as well as prepping the site for the installation of new sanitary infrastructure. Vehicles on Memorial Drive should access the Kendall Square area via Ames Street. (W1).
The site fence along Wadsworth Street between Main Street and Amherst Street will be moved out to the middle of the street. Traffic will only be slightly delayed during the fence move and there will be no traffic impacts once in place. (W2)
Carleton Street – Carleton Street will be paved Saturday, November 18th. Access down the street will be limited to emergency vehicles only for the MIT Medical Building. Line striping will follow within the next two weeks. (C1)
Amherst Street – Work will continue at 100 Memorial Drive across from Carleton Street to install a new utility structure. Pedestrians will be rerouted around the construction zone while the work takes place. (A1)
Sanitary connection to 100 Memorial will take place along the drive to the garages. Vehicle access will be maintained but delays are possible. (A2)
Chilled water lines will continue along Amherst. (A3)
Utility lines will be installed near the entrance to E51 which will require the revolving doors to be closed. The main entrance will remain opened but pedestrians can also access the building through the E40 bridge. (A4)
General Construction Update
The sheeting installation activities will continue on Site 5 along Main Street and around the MBTA head house. (S1). This work may create noise and vibration in the immediate area.
The slurry wall and secant wall installation will be completed at Site 5 along Dock Street and Deacon Street. Additional earth support will be installed once the sheeting operation has been completed.
Work continues on the Kendall Garage behind 290-292 Main (E38-E39), and 238 Main (E48). This includes:
- Slurry Wall installation.
- Daily deliveries of steel and concrete.
- Daily trucking to remove material from the site.
E38 interior and exterior renovation activities will continue.
- Pressure cleaning will continue inside of E38. This activity may be loud at times along Main Street.
E39 foundation activities will continue.
Police details will be utilized throughout the project area to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Saturday Work – General construction activities will continue on Saturdays. Work will occur within the City of Cambridge allowable work hours, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
