Home toxics and appliance clean-up days in Washtenaw County

Safely managing home toxics makes the county more resilient! Especially with more extreme storms.

Beginning in April and running throughout the summer, Washtenaw County residents can safely recycle or dispose of a range of household items at a series of clean-up days.

The Washtenaw County Public Works Division announced the schedule of five 2022 clean-up events in early March, each taking place in a different corner of the county.

The materials accepted at each event vary and are announced roughly a month ahead of time online here. Collection typically includes items like household appliances, mattresses, electronics, home toxics and car tires.

The events are free, with a suggested donation of $15 per car to assist with disposal costs. Each runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here is the schedule:

  • April 23 - Chelsea High School - 740 North Freer Road
  • June 25 - Whitmore Lake High School - 7430 Whitmore Lake Road
  • July 23 - Lincoln High School - 7425 Willis Road, Ypsilanti
  • July 30 - Saline High School - 1300 Campus Parkway
  • August 27 - Eastern Michigan University - 799 North Hewitt Road, Ypsilanti

The events are for Washtenaw County residents only, and are not available to businesses, government agencies, nonprofits or other groups.
