What's in the Works

Groundwork Bridgeport is working with the Trust for Public Land, the City of Bridgeport, the Waterfront Advisory Board, and the Downtown Special Services District to transform Sliver by the River into a socially and environmentally vibrant public park. The proposed project will use nature-based solutions to expand access to the waterfront and provide a refuge to Downtown residents and visitors. As a large public site in a prime location, Sliver by the River presents a great opportunity to establish a new waterfront green space that meets residents' needs while supporting local ecosystems and improving the water quality of the Pequonnock River.

What's There Now

Sliver by the River is a 3-acre public site in Downtown Bridgeport that sits on the Pequonnock River next to the Stratford Avenue Bridge and behind the Bridgeport Transportation Center. The vacant site is covered with degraded asphalt and invasive plants, and it is not currently visited by many residents.

What's Happening Next

We plan to work with a landscape architect to create and implement a full landscape design for Sliver by the River, but first we want to know what you think! We are conducting an outreach campaign to understand how residents use the site and what changes they would like to see made there to ensure that the park’s design reflects the needs and vision of the community.
