What could be better about South Orange, NJ?

We need more dinner restaurants for adults who dearly WANT to support SO establishments but find themselves leaving town for great meals at restaurants that know what they're doing. The Reservoir and Bunny's... Read more...

Sorry, I would also like to add more variety with take out. I would love to see a greek or salad take out place. Similar to a pita grill.

Agreed with more restaurant options! After living in Morristown for years before this we miss the variety of restaurants and upscale bars...end up taking visitors into NYC for a night out.

Maybe one things to consider is providing some lower cost licenses for wine only (excluding hard liquor and, especially, beer, if we're looking for upscale eateries). It's really a glaring thing is South... Read more...

This intersection is particularly difficult during rush hour traffic.

By part-time light do you mean just during rush hour? Would removing on-street parking during rush hour be an option at difficult intersections you or anyone else might support?

I would definitely recommend extended the line of sight for parking on this section of S Ridgewood 24/7. Yes, p/t for rush hour only. Maybe a traffic guard could help?

What could be better about South Orange, NJ?

To address the property tax burden, the Town should accelerate discussions with surrounding jurisdictions (Maplewood, of course, but others as well) to combine government functions.

Large scale consolidation is the only way to create efficiency and tax stabilization

What about extending retail under the tracks, as proposed in the Vision Plan?

With an extended sidewalk, could this area work as a farmer's market area? Maybe a few size appropriate stalls?

This whole stretch of SO Avenue from Scotland Rd to Rite Aid is in serious need of complete redevelopment.

Maybe start with Rite Aid itself. Could we work with them to improve the brick wall facing S. Orange Ave.? Add green around in and/or around the parking lot? As it is, looks like the really don't care.

I think having a cohesive sign design and or rules, would unify our town... all the different types fonts, and colors make this stretch of the road look junkie...

I would like to see residential or office over retail here. Maybe it could work if there is parking under the building with access from behind building.

The public space/plaza between Stop and Shop and Valley St. should be utilized. It needs some picnic benches, or even some lights in the evening so people could hang out there and eat.

This is a great suggestion--do you know of any other potential pocket park opportunities in town? We would love to review them as part of the Open Space Element in the spring!

i'm having a hard time picturing any public plaza space here. do you mean the parking lot, or the sidewalk in front of stop n shop?

Need more traffic calming here. People come down the hill fast, and this makes the section of S. Orange Avenue leading into town dangerous for pedestrians and bikers.

Right lane coming down the hill should be changed to right turn only at the ridgewood junction

When traveling south on N. Ridgewood, it would be nice to have a left turn arrow onto S. Orange Ave.

These are really great suggestions for interventions! Are there any others you can think of? How could this intersection be made safer for pedestrians?
