Update #36

City commits $1.2M to Stearns Sq & Duryea Way

Next summer will bring a new and refreshed look to Stearns Square and Duryea Way.  Improvements will include:

- Archways on either side of Duryea Way to create a more welcoming passageway from the Silverbrick Lofts Apartments and Union Station to the Stearns Square area

- Newly expanded sidewalks to allow for outdoor dining along on streets surrounding the park

- The addition of new bike racks, new street furniture and upgraded lighting fixtures & string lights

- A full restoration of a historic Stearns Square fountain

-The reconstruction and replacement of all park and pedestrian way materials including landscaping, plantings, pavers, curbing and pavement

- Traffic calming measures to encourage more pedestrian activity

A big thank you to the Mayor's Office, Springfield Parks Department, Springfield Economic Development Department, MassDevelopment, nearby property owners & the Business Improvement District for their combined effort to move this project forward.
