I thoroughly agree with this comment! Howard County still needs to increase more visibility with disabled and elderly citizens. Recently I saw a commercial about every county except Howard County having a coordinator to help with resources to stay in their homes without going to assisted living facility. I visited the website where no presence of Howard County is on it. Also need to beef up disabled parking at shopping centers and the Columbia Mall.

A great idea! Research on the changing demographics within Howard County and its disabled and aging population. Create awareness about “Livable Communities” and what they look like. Work closely with the County to provide appropriate concessions for businesses that will become “certified” and train their employees appropriately on serving the disabled community. Traffic signals should be functional for both hearing and sight impaired people. Create spaces within the development that are disabled friendly and inclusive, not separate, but inclusive so that all can see thst disabilities impact many and make the conversations and interactions more mainstream. HOAs should be required to have disabled persons who are willing and able to serve on their leadership. Partner with organizations and allies like AARP and other disabled friendly organizations to create innovative ideas co-use spaces. I m’d be happy to assist!
