Would love to introduce young people to the fields of history, historic preservation, social consciousness, and art appreciation.

Safety/security = the one thing young people need most is to feel safe - emotionally and physically. It is the one thing that the young people who would be served by this housing community would be feeling the most--fear and an inability to trust for fear of being taken advantage of in some way. Green space = vegetable and flower gardening Art = public art projects inspired by the young people's own visual interests Cool architecture, well designed living spaces, respect for privacy and spaces that allow for different and evolving social engagement levels.

I am a public historian spent, but almost 8 years working for Homeward - at the system level of addressing homelessness in Richmond. When I left that agency in 2008, the problems for youth aging out of foster care, becoming homeless and disconnected from kinship relationships to help them transition from teen to adulthood were very slim. Add those young people returning from incarceration and you have waves of people disappointed yet craving the guidance and security of supportive networks. The very least they deserve is stable housing and supportive services and the opportunity for social networking.
