I think having some ice cream and similar vendors (carts) on the boardwalk area along with the child-themed park would be something to attract youth...along with their families/parents. If the CIH museum had something similar to their current youth-orientated activities in the space that would also be good. The addition of some automotive-related items for youth engagement to reflect the Mullin Automotive Museum focus might also be another draw.

I think this is exactly what the area needs. A needed makeover with value added to the community.

Put in a sidewalk/bike path for the entire length of Victoria from Channel Islands Blvd to the Coast Guard Station.

Also, restaurants with outside dining so needed in the area serving dinner and drinks. Water taxi would be nice. A walking path along the waterside would be great.

Excellent ideas, Rosalyn! One of the things the wharf has so lacked in the past is outdoor restaurants. Ease of access will be key to the wharf's future success, translating to the success of its restaurants, retail, etc... and their respective owners and employees.

A water feature would be a nice continuation of the ocean lifestyle, but I'd like to see some kiosks. An open-air area to accommodate musicians would be a nice addition, too. Obviously, because it's a family area, nothing too "over the top". I'm always reminded of Europe and their plazas.

Definitely have small picnic areas, but I'd lean more towards a ocean-themed playground.

For this setting and from my travels, I'm of the opinion that it should lean more intensively towards restaurants / eateries with a handful of locally-owned retail. And, I'd keep services companies (ie, financial / banking, etc...) to almost nil; however, I'd also open it up to a shop / storefront that rents watercraft, wheeled vehicles, water taxi. Bottomline - Keep it local.

I fully support the project. There is too much negative fuss over this project regarding the housing component. I didn't see any outcry when the Westerlies were built or all the new Seabridge units. The area needs the financial infusion. The project will be good for the harbor.

Maybe an ice cream shop, bakery, dog park, a jogging trail, some kind of water spouts that the kids could play in. Food carts as well. A museum about the history of the wharf. Some kind of children's theater maybe? Like an outside movie or arts and crafts. During the holidays, different decorated Christmas trees along with hot chocolate vendors.

I think there should be outdoor seating throughout the area. Could be benches, could be a few picnic tables, could be tables for dining outside. The area will not thrive unless there are opportunities to sit outside.

It is important that the ACTUAL ISSUES related to the project receive public comment and reception. That is why this site is excellent. Believe it or not I was attracted to this issue as a former Flushing, MI city councilman. All of this negativity must be overcome, and real improvement of the community as the focus of the discussion!
