I garden in a community garden and can say that gardening does not attract pests. Even a small 6x8' bed would be big enough to have herbs that everyone can use, cherry tomato plants, etc. Things like cherry tomato plants can also be grown in garden pots, which can be stored in the winter. You could ask the landscape architect to include several spots for small movable planters. The main thing is to plan for easy access to water. Also, I used to lead tenants in a SRO and their neighbors in planting tulip and daffodil bulbs every fall; everyone was happy when they came up in the spring, knowing they had helped plant them.

Thanks for the changes! Could you also answer "Why not increase the # of case workers now, to at least two?" Unless you are saying that relocation workers are trained case workers, I still think it would be good to increase case workers now, instead of waiting until after construction is over..

In the public meetings, CHA said most of the new units will be for homeless people, which is good. But the main description of this project on Courbanize does not mention homeless people; it is only in the FAQs. In the meeting, CHA stated there would be case workers present M-F and security people every night; it would be good to add this info to the Courbanize site. Under What's Next, it mentions the meeting that just happened; it should instead talk about going to the Planning Board. My question is: Why not increase the # of case workers now, to at least two? This would also help with relocation and any stress tenants might experience. I know tenants in other subsidized buildings that were renovated found the relocation process to be quite stressful (I would too.)

Maybe explore the way the convent used to serve the neighborhood and how similar services are provided now... sort of a then and now comparison. First it would help to know more of the history of the building and its residents.

The planned mural/mosaic art work would be a good way to highlight the building's history. There could also be a historical sign on the outside wall.

Quality housing with full services for additional homeless people; preservation of existing trees and good landscaping; good building design and sustainability; increasing positive interactions with neighborhood residents. [Same answer as my response for the renovations.]
