Safety is a factor. Having a little buffer between you and traffic is needed.

I agree. In a lot of ways, the focus of the plan on the Central Peninsula was limiting. I'd like to see references to this plan in the SJ Transportation Plan that's supposed to be in the works, and then I'd like to see *action* based on both plans! One of the issues is that some of the connections between neighbourhoods are under provincial rather than city control. One example would be the overpasses over the highway (St Patrick/Main St, Garden/Somerset St, Crown St). How does the city get the province to buy into strengthening these connections for pedestrians and cyclists?

We need a pedestrian link to the west side, for over a hundred years there was a ferry service like Halifax still has. At very least a pedestrian walkway and bike lane under the harbour bridge is needed to reconnect the city.

Does the walk and cycle way really need to go over the Harbour Bridge? The Harbour Passage is already being used as a commuting route. What's really needed is to improve conditions for pedestrians and especially cyclists from OSCO westwards. For pedestrians, there needs to be a crosswalk before or where the south-side sidewalk ends at the Reversing Falls. And certainly both pedestrians and cyclists need a better way to negotiate Simms Corner.

The building of a Harbour Bridge Walk and Cycle Way must be a priority! Get the Westside to be part of the city 24/7, and complete the excellent Harbour Trail Loop. It would be a huge help for the economically depressed Wessies!

We should have a tree canopy/planting goal for the neighbourhood. Many of our streets have little or no trees.
