The market rate apartments are a great addition as well, they provide more options for renters and put pressure on current landlords to keep existing apartments cheaper. The individuals who would live in those 2,700 will live somewhere else if the new units are not built, they'll compete for other existing units putting pressure on those rents.

Yes. The plans look great, just make sure the final product looks as nice. If there’s too much compromise or scaling back along the way this could easily turn into an albatross on astoria’s neck instead of the shining jewel it’s meant to be. Don’t cut corners!

Absolutely. I think this development is much-needed for South Steinway, which is getting increasingly dilapidated by the day. We need to avoid urban decay and this is a great way to accomplish that. I know there are many people saying "what about small businesses?", but the problem is that nowadays South Steinway is NOT an attractive place for a small business owner to open up shop. What mom-and-pop wants to open up a store when vacancies abound? This development will make South Steinway more attractive for new small businesses, and be a boon to the existing small businesses.

This may be one of the most important initiatives our community has ever had the opportunity to be part of. As a business owner and Kiwanis community supporter since 1995 I have seen and been on the roller coaster ride Astoria has endured. Steinway street along with many others has suffered and are no longer what they were. A project like this is a game changer and desperately needed. Especially now that so many folks and businesses have and are suffering with post covid consequences. The studios have always brought great value to all of us and I am extremely appreciative and excited that they continue to do so.
