The challenge of managing a city that is very rich but not really very well run, and where all the leadership seems to feel we’re doing great. The opportunity of being in a very rich city with a populace willing to pay for progressive policies in housing, access, inclusion, etc. These challenges and opportunities show up in, for example, good policies on things like access for people with mobility issues, but then terrible sidewalks all around the city.

I think the City Council should lead on prioritization (and accountability) and the Manager should lead on implementation. An effective, committed, inclusive manager should be able to implement whatever the Council prioritizes.

I would like the new Manager to be experienced at inclusive leadership leading to effective operational management.
