I really hope for an independent thoughtful experienced person who understands intercommunications and who won't get intimidated or bullied by council members, who knows how to keep communications open and will be transparent. He also needs to understand financing and bigger long-term planning instead of instant gratification. We need true city planning, not piecemeal.

be a good communicator, be able to bring factions together, understand the WHOLE of Cambridge, not just the special interests, loudest, most divisive (including councilors). Consider historical preservation as a viable route to housing and its importance to sense of place. Don't be afraid to spend money on independent studies. The city has a habit of doing fast and easy without taking the time to anticipate consequences. Please seek out actual experts on committees and boards, not just ideologues, --and stand up to bullying.

I would like to see someone from outside. Insiders may know the city but they also know the political players who know how to push buttons. I appreciated the candidate from Ashville, NC last time around before hiring the pre-determined member of the management posse of the city.

take the time to determine what the goal is of city government is. Is it to add 50,000 more units for the bio/ tech employees or how to protect current residents. Is it to add 50,000 more residents to a dense municipality without identifying the consequences.
