Foreign influence. Much of the real estate in the city is now owned by people who do not live in the city or even in the country and do not care if they oust established businesses or keep buildings empty for years. It's a write off for them. Parts of the city have died as a result.

The manager will be challenged to serve the entire city population and not simply the very vocal minorities which often hold sway in city politics. The manager will also be challenged to work collaboratively with neighboring cities/towns and the regional groups and boards, building relationships and solving problems and making constructive compromises on behalf of the city.

I think Louis Depasquale has done a fine job managing this city . Future management would need to include ALL in decisions that matter to those affected! Like businesses that lose all their parking! A new manager should be a long time Cambridge resident that can relate to this city and constant changes . It would be nice to have another city manager that is so involved in the community like Lou .

Above all we should look for an experienced level-headed collaborator who can work effectively with a wide range of people with divergent interests, not someone who will simply be a political yes-man or woman to the city council.
