Hi mark , what are the main design features are you interested in the new fountain? Should they be cost effective ? Should they be environmental?

Hi Irene, the current fountain is beyond repair. It has been getting repaired for close two decades, costing millions of dollars. We have an opportunity to modernize it, while preserving its characters. Lowering its operation and maintenance cost and perhaps make it a year around. We want to know what features you would love to keep and which you want to improve

I think we should junk this one and have a brand new one in its place. Everyone loved that fountain but why spend more money on an old fountain, lets get a new and bigger one on the same spot.

Thanks Linda, the scenery is for sure very peaceful and we want to amplify its beauty for all seasons.

Thanks a lot Oliver, making the fountain permanent and reducing the annual cost of assembly/disassembly is definitely one of our main objectives.
How would you imagine that could be possible?

Thanks Vince, what type of repairs you suggest? Should the fountain use less energy? Should it be a year around? Should be closer to the land on order to be permanent? We would love to hear your ideas

Thanks Marla, you hit the nail on the head … preserving the fountain history and it’s values is the first and the most important step of our design process. We want any new upgrades be a reflection of those values in today’s context. Innovation was One of its most important values in 70s ( largest floating fountain) . We believe the new design needs to reflect the current innovation in Windsor. What innovative ideas you believe should be added to the design?

Hi Laura, should we consider reducing the annual cost of assembly and disassembly ?

Hi Lynne , thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if you have some design ideas that could amplify the sense of community. For example should the fountain be a year around experience? Should people be able to interact with the lighting?

Randy, thank you for write up, we understand the sentimental value of the fountain and it’s place in people memories that is why we are looking forward to hear your comments/ideas on how we can design the next peace fountain with lower operation and maintenance cost .

Debbie, Thanks for the comments, the current fountain has reached its life cycle and cost a huge amount of money to repair each year . This is beyond the annual cost of assembly and disassembly. We are looking to see how we can modernize and reduce its operation and maintenance cost .

The population that currently uses this park is very multi cultural. The common practice is to stroll along the shoreline with friends and family looking out over the river to Belle Isle and Detroit. This activity is common around the world- think Barcelona, Miami, Singapore. Community already exists here. The gift your project can give is to instruct city officials to budget people and resources to program our riverfront spaces. For years, with no success, I have encouraged the Mayor and City Council to follow the lead and example of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and the Downtown Detroit Partnership. Lack of programming is holding Windsor back. We annually spend hundreds of millions on concrete and asphalt yet fail to invest in people.
