be a good communicator, be able to bring factions together, understand the WHOLE of Cambridge, not just the special interests, loudest, most divisive (including councilors). Consider historical preservation as a viable route to housing and its importance to sense of place. Don't be afraid to spend money on independent studies. The city has a habit of doing fast and easy without taking the time to anticipate consequences. Please seek out actual experts on committees and boards, not just ideologues, --and stand up to bullying.

This means increasing housing which requires major revisions to the zoning ordinance. That is the Councils role, not the City Manager.

The Council should set the salary based on new City Managers in similarly sized cities. Not based on the inflated salary created by Bob Healey’s long and successful revive. I am guessing between 180,000 and 200,000 is the gaining rate. The manager should also have a free hand in making administrative, including staff changes, necessary to move the city forward.

Developing and defining clear metrics to analyze the cost and benefits of existing an proposed municipal programs. Making such analysis available to the public. Ensuring that salaries of non-unionized city employees, including the City Manager, are in line with similarly sized cities. Eliminating waste in local government.

Young and eager to advance in public administration. A current city or town manager in a smaller municipality with a strong track record managing finances, personnel, etc.
