I agree, I'm surprised by the lack of trash cans but that's not an excuse for people throwing their personal trash everywhere here. Nearly every tree and the ground around it is littered with trash here and haven't seen it at that level in other neighborhoods in NYC.

It is important, fir these open spaces, however, must be rules for keeping it clean. We cannot lose our sense of pride. We cannot just depend on Govt to clean up after us.. Astoria was one of the cleanest areas in Queens, now its like a pig pen.

I think many people in Astoria need to understand is that this is one of the rare places left relatively close to Manhattan that's fairly affordable by NYC standards and eventually the people who are priced out of Brooklyn and/or Manhattan are going to look here since LIC is also priced out for many. That's what happened to me as rents went up $600 in 6 years for a 1 bedroom. There's no way rents won't start to rise and this project isn't the only reason for that. I know many people want Astoria to stay the same way for another 30 years but walk around from the waterfront to Steinway from 30th ave to 36th ave and you'll find Astoria RAPIDLY changing with new luxury rentals, condos, etc. So finding ways to get affordable units in these bigger developments is one way to have more housing that below market rates hopefully.

Yes, I'm all for more jobs, services, senior housing, and overall economic growth in an attractive park-like setting, that stands to generate new tax revenue flowing back into the community for further revitalization in Astoria. Just imagining somewhere to sit other than a bus stop is nice!

Food hall similar to Dekalb food hall that options at different price points...more local businesses and not chains. Good retail stores for clothing don’t exist here either. Or a Trader Joe’s for grocery. Could be a mix of chain and local. In terms of entertainment, I would look at LIC culture lab as a good way to have open air space for concerts. There is no “destination” areas for entertainment here unfortunately yet.

Steinway Street used to be a shopping destination but isn't anymore. Injecting new retail, especially in the part of Steinway that currently has almost zero retail might make all of Steinway a shopping destination again. Since the south part of Steinway has easier access to subways, more people will be coming by mass transit and after they arrive and shop they'll be looking for places to eat throughout the neighborhood.
Seems like a big win to me.

That street needs to be revitalized. It reminds me of downtown Brooklyn 10 years ago and now that area has great movie theaters, food halls, and shopping (retail, grocery, etc).

I would most certainly support this. Would give people an opportunity to live in a newly renovated community w a short commute to Manhattan and at the same time being able to live in similar apartments to Manhattan at lower prices. Also bringing jobs to the community is a huge asset for this depressed area…

Important to have lawns and dog run similar to LIC. Currently you have to take a long walk or take public to have these type of features. The dog run under the bridge is fairly limiting if you don't live near there and not exactly an ideal location either.
